artist in residency: Asylum of Art Air, Kultivera, Sweden, Tranås

Asylum of Art AiR (October) Kultivera and Turkey Europe Foundation have developed this residency for Turkish artists and activists as a model of investigation. Under the month of october Turkish artists shall create a meeting place where Kultivera, TAV, the artists and the local community shall meet to investigate democracy, human rights, cultural exchange and development.

Eda Gecikmez (b.1984, Istanbul) graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Painting Department, in 2010. During her undergraduate education, she studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Polytechnic University of Valencia in Spain for a year. In 2015, she was invited to an artist residency program in Cittadellarte – Fondazione Pistoletto, Biella, Italy and Kultivera, Tranås, Sweden. She completed the Home Workspace Art Education Program organized by Ashkal Alwan - The Lebanese Association for Plastic Arts during 2016-2017. She received her master’s degree from Yıldız Technical University in Art & Design Faculty, Social Sciences Institute in 2019. Beginning in 2004, her works were featured in many exhibitions and art projects. The subject of Eda Gecikmez's current interests are gender, identity and urban politics related to the concepts of body and space. She associates social and political transformations with the history of art and focuses daily on the perspective of past and possible future imaginations. Gecikmez, who continues her Proficiency in Art Program at Hacettepe University Fine Arts Institute Painting Department, is represented by Galeri Nev. The artist lives and works in Istanbul and Ankara.
